Also there will be a concert I am REALLY looking forward to at Cikan House on Easter Monday, April 22nd by drummer Pete Zimmer from New York, saxophonist Loren Stillman now lives in Missoula originally from Brooklyn and plays the area often, pianist Erik Olson from Billings, and bassist Bob Bowman from W. Yellowstone originally from Kansas City. This will be a great concert so please don’t miss it!

Pete Zimmer : Drummer, Pete Zimmer has established himself as one of the top-call drummers in New York City’s jazz scene. Originally from Waukesha, Wisconsin, Zimmer has made his mark nationally and internationally as a versatile and articulate drummer, bandleader, sideman, composer, educator, and record label entrepreneur. Zimmer’s band has performed at many of the prominent jazz venues in New York City including: The Blue Note, Jazz Standard, Smoke Jazz Club, Smalls Jazz Club, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, Birdland Jazz Club, The Kitano, Fat Cat, and Cornelia Street Café. Pete Zimmer is a highly regarded educator and clinician. He has presented clinics and masterclasses at many top collegiate jazz programs throughout the United States and United Kingdom. Loren Stillman : The music of Brooklyn-based saxophonist and composer, Loren Stillman, has found acclaimed reviews in such publications as The New York Times, Downbeat Magazine, Jazziz, Jazz Times, and National Public Radio, marking him as an innovative voice of modern jazz. With his training stemming from Lee Konitz and David Liebman to Harvey Pittel, Stillman has performed, recorded, and educated throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan.
Alongside an impressive record of performances, recordings, and master-classes with his own ensembles, Stillman has performed and recorded alongside The Charlie Haden Liberation Music Orchestra, Paul Motian Trio 2000+2, Carla Bley, John Abercrombie, Michael Formanek: Ensemble Kolassus, Ralph Alessi, Andy Milne’s DAPP Theory, Michele Rosewoman Quintessence, Tyshawn Sorey Oblique, Brad Shepik, Vic Juris and The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. Erik Olson : A native of Powell, Wyoming, Erik Olson has been one of the busiest musicians in the Billings, MT music scene. His talents as a pianist, woodwind specialist, composer, and educator have kept him busy performing in the northwest region. Currently Erik plays in a number of well known Montana groups. He has also performed and recorded with various Country, Classical, Funk, Rock, R&B, Hip Hop, and Soul groups around the area. At 30 years old, Erik has performed with jazz legends Stefon Harris, Steve Turre, and the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Other notable artists that he has performed with include Nick Mancini, Ronnie Bedford, Kansas, Dave Pietro, and Eric Reed.
Bob Bowman : Bob Bowman has performed with numbers of artists globally including Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Carmen McRae, Frank Mantooth, Freddie Hubbard, Bud Shank, Karrin Allyson, Dan Haerle, Steve Houghton, Steve Allee, Bill Mays, Clay Jenkins, Danny Embrey, Todd Strait, Bob Sheppard, Matt Otto, Rod Fleeman, John Stowell, Jerry Hahn, Bobby Watson and others. Bob has toured around the world and been on many recordings that have won or been nominated for GRAMMY awards. While performing with these artists, he works with his own bands including the legendary Kansas City group, INTERSTRING and has also dedicated himself to jazz education. CUBA NIGHTS AT THE MURRAY BAR IN LIVINGSTON
Cubongo will be performing Cuban and Brazilian dance music at the Murray Bar in Livingston, Saturday April 27 from 9pm-1am. Styles of dance music include Cha Cha, Salsa, Bolero, Son Montuno, Mambo, Samba and Funky Samba. The mix includes slower tempo songs and varies with fast tempo Salsa and Samba. It’s a musical fix for all levels of dancers.
For this performance, Cubongo performs as a quartet; Silas Stewart-Vibraphone, Michael Steele-Upright and Electric Bass, Chris Naro-Drums and Percussion and Matt Ridgeway-Keyboards.
