One of the most iconic figures in jazz, Wayne Shorter passed away on March 2nd. Bob and I revisited “Native Dancer” after we heard of his passing. Then “In a Silent Way” (Miles Davis) and “Speak No Evil”. A Bozeman Jazz fan Greg recommended to check “anything by The Wayne Shorter Quartet” which Herbie Hancock called “the greatest small group in the history of jazz”. Here is Mr. Shorter’s famous quote: Jazz shouldn’t have any mandates. Jazz shouldn’t be something that’s required to sound like jazz. To me, jazz means “I dare you.” Rest in Peace, Mr. Shorter.
