SUNDAY NIGHT AT WALKERS GRILL IN BILLINGS

Born and raised in Bozeman, Montana, Luca Rodoni began playing the trumpet at age ten. He quickly developed a passion for playing the instrument and began focusing on learning jazz music. During his high school years, he attended the Vail Jazz Workshop, Stanford Jazz Institute, Centrum Jazz Workshop, and Lincoln Center’s Summer Jazz Academy under the direction of Wynton Marsalis. Since returning, he has been focused on composing and performing new original music, continuing his development as a trumpet player, and pursuing his passions outdoors. Rodoni frequently plays with a variety of groups and is a member of Bozeman-based Paige and the People’s Band. Luca is joined by Erik Olson on piano, Parker Brown on bass, and Bill Honaker on drums.
It’s sure to be a fun night! As always, no cover.

WCJO’s program, “JAZZ ON SCREEN!” will present creative jazz music arrangements from classic films, television, and anime. The performance will include Henry Mancini’s themes to the films “Charade” and “Days of Wine and Roses”, arranged by Eric Richards, “Moon River” from the film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”, arranged by Scott Jeppesen, Johnny Mandel’s classic score to the 1958 crime blockbuster “I Want to Live”, Burt Bacharach’s theme to the 1966 film “Alfie”, featuring WCJO’s lead trumpeter, John Harbaugh, A Brazilian version of the theme of “Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood”, arranged by Mike Tomaro, Lalo Schifrin’s exciting theme to “Mission Impossible”, and the concert finale is a high-energy theme to the anime Cowboy Bebop titled “Tank!”

SUNDAY AT FREE CYCLES IN MISSOULA


SAMBA Percussion/Drumset Workshop – Explore Samba rhythms on traditional Brasilian percussion instruments, play them together to see how the parts fit together. Then we’ll learn how we apply these to drumset, the skills required and how we can develop those skills.
Geared to high-school drummers and above, but all musicians interested in Samba rhythms will benefit. Workshop by guest artist Francisco Marques who has been teaching Brasilian music for over twenty years (https://franciscomarquesmusic.com); Pedro Marques, Brasilian percussionist playing with local favorite Canta Brasil, and Missoula drumset artist and teacher Ed Stalling.

WILL BROWN AT THE CIKAN HOUSE IN BOZEMAN

Bozeman music fans! Saxophonist and Bozeman native Will Brown is back from NYC with two exciting nights of music at the best listening room in town – The Cikan House. Join him on April 28th and 29th as he showcases two unique nights of music with a different band each night. 

Friday April 28th: Wayne Shorter Tribute Night – Featuring Craig Hall, Luca Rodoni, Michael Steele, Josh Poole, and Will Brown. Bozeman locals pay homage to saxophonist Wayne Shorter who we recently lost in March. The quintet will play selections that showcase Shorter’s ability to capture different eras in jazz, and highlight his constant growth as a composer throughout his 63 year musical career. 

Saturday April 29th: Will Brown’s Imports Quartet – Featuring Finn Carroll (NYC, Missoula), Owen Ross (Missoula), Davy Nefos (Seattle), and Will Brown (NYC, Bozeman). The Imports quartet will focus on original compositions, modern jazz selections rarely heard in Montana, as well as folk inspired music presented in the context of jazz. 

2 Sets of music each night starting at 7pm. Refreshments provided.

Tickets are $30 for one night or $50 for both nights. Limited seating – reservations are highly encouraged to ensure your spot!
