November 13th was the 70th birthday of my late husband, jazz bassist Kelly Roberti. He was the reason I moved to Montana and started BigSkyJazz.
There was a memorial event yesterday at Baxter Hotel for our dear friend Frank Cikan, who left us on November 5th. Many people filled the ballroom to celebrate his life, and I saw many faces I have become familiar with through Kelly, Frank, and my husband Bob Bowman, who attended the memorial with a big neck brace on! Without music, I would not have met all these people. Music connects us without boundaries!

MISSOULA COLLECTIVE MUSIC ENSEMBLE, CONDUCTED BY NAOMI MOON SIEGEL
Featuring the entire ensemble under conduction/direction by Siegel, these collective improvisations and compositions feature “conduction”, a jazz technique utilized to organize, expand and inspire improvisation in a large group setting. “Conduction” was created by the late Lawrence “Butch” Morris and is now used throughout the world. Siegel learned Conduction from playing in Wayne Horvitz’s ensemble for many years. The first set will be an open rehearsal, and then second set will be a performance utilizing the Conduction techniques practiced in the open rehearsal.
