Bob and I celebrated his birthday yesterday, April 17th, at home. Weather around Hebgen Lake was gorgeous and we enjoyed relaxing time!
Montana will begin to reopen the economy gradually after April 24th. We don’t know when musicians will be able to go back to perform yet. While I support the reopening process to be safe for everyone, I hope it won’t take long to enjoy live music again.
Have you joined “Howling at the moon”? It is a social event that people howl to the moon at 8PM to show gratitude for doctors and nurses on the front lines of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. I heard many people have joined the event in Bozeman and I bet other people in area too. A difficult time like this creates a unique way to bring people together even though we are in isolation.

FOR YOUR LISTENING PLEASURE

There are many young talented musicians in Montana. Also we have great Montana jazz veterans! Our wonderful friend, singer and trombonist MJ Williams is one of them. She won Governor’s Arts Award in 2016 for her dedication to music and art in Montana. Here is a YouTube video where you can listen to 3 tunes by MJ!

Saxophonist Wilbur Rehmann from Helena reached out to me and gave me a link to his performance at the Cathedral of Saint Helena. Here is the link on YouTube. Thanks Wilbur!

Our friend and huge jazz fan Greg Smith recommended O Pato, on Sara Gazarek and Josh Nelson‘s duo CD Dream in the Blue. You can listen to the tune here on YouTube. Thanks for the input, Greg! My husband Bob Bowman recently played with the pianist Josh Nelson in LA. Josh is a great musician and such a nice, fun person! Bob and Josh have talked about performing in Montana this year. Hopefully that will happen!!

Last year I found this old album by Cannonball Adderley “Nippon Soul”. This is a live album recorded during his Japan tour in 1963. Personnel : Cannonball Adderley, Nat Adderley, Yusef Lateef, Joe Zawinul, Sam Jones, and Louis Hayes. Here is “Brother John” from “Nippon Soul”. Enjoy!

That’s it for this week. See you next time!
