Bob and I are back to Montana from the Midwest tour! Last several newsletters were sent out on Tuesdays and I understand that made it difficult for Bozeman jazz fans to catch live jazz at Devil’s Toboggan which happens on Tuesdays. I’ve tried to publish my newsletter on Mondays but sometimes it can be difficult because of my own schedule. I am thinking of changing publishing day on Sundays or on Mondays at the latest. So, musician friends, if you would like to put your schedule on the newsletter, please contact me by Sunday morning!
* To musician friends, if you would like to add your message, on going projects like new albums, etc. on BigSkyJazz.net please contact me!
* Details of these concerts can be changed due to artists/venues’ circumstances.

The music events listed here could be cancelled/postponed due to the COVID restrictions.

FOR YOUR LISTENING PLEASURE

Bob had a porch concert in Turney, MO on October 10th with wonderful KC musicians. Roger Wilder on keyboard, Peter Schlamb on vibraphone, John Kizilarmut on drums, and as a special guest trumpet player Stan Kessler. We are planning to stream the video from the concert on Monday, October 26th evening. Please check the detail on my next newsletter which will be sent out on Sunday!

Greg Smith, one of the biggest jazz fans in Bozeman has recommended some tunes. I appreciate your input always, Greg!!! Here are tunes from his recommendation.
“Meditacao” from by Fred Hersch from his album “Fred Hersch Plays Jobim” Greg wrote “Lately I’ve been digging the solo piano album Fred Hersch Plays Jobim (…). I’m always intrigued by the choices that cats make when playing solo piano, and how they work within the constraint of having only ten fingers. They have to decide what they’re going to leave out, and must work creatively with “negative space” in order to suggest and infer what they cannot actually play. (…) Fred does some excellent work with counterpoint in the left hand, allowing him to do so much more with less.” Bob played with Fred Hersch in L.A.
And here is a gorgeous performance by fantastic cellist Jacques Morlenbaum and his Samba Trio playing “Receita de Samba”. You can watch a whole concert here.
Lastly “Brigas Nunca Mais” by pianist Hamleto Stamato with his Brazilian Quartet. Greg wrote “They remind me a lot of Phil and the Samba Jazz Syndicate. In his solo, Hamleto bends the voicings and uses substitutions in a very hip way.”
Thank you so much again, Greg!!

Guitarist Curt Warren who recently came back to Bozeman has released an album called “Don’t Fret About It”. Here is a message from Curt Warren “It is a recording actually done a few years ago and is solos and duos with some takes featuring virtuoso bassist Dave Young and a great piano player Vince Genova.  If you don’t like my playing you will  love Vince and Dave’s playing.” The album is available on major online music stores/streaming sites! You can take a listen a tune “Indian Summer” from the album on YouTube.

BigSkyJazz.net and news letter Jazz this week are non-profit. I am doing this to be a little help for jazz community around Bozeman while I work as a website/graphic designer.
If you feel like helping me with a little reward please donate from “Buy me a glass of wine page“. It is much appreciated!!!
